Monument Chapter Regent

Monument Chapter welcomes you!

We welcome you to learn more about Monument Chapter, NSDAR. We are part of an organization of women who are dedicated to preserving the rich history of our nation, promoting patriotism, and fostering a deep commitment to education. We are committed to making an impact in our community through service and advocacy while honoring the legacy of our ancestors who fought for the freedoms we enjoy today.

We encourage you to review our website, where you can find detailed information about what our chapter does, how we support DAR goals, and learn what it takes to become a DAR member.

About Our Chapter

The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) was established in 1890, and the Monument Chapter, NSDAR, was formed on December 11,1900, in Minneapolis, making us one of the oldest chapters in the state.

On February 2, 2013, the Monument Chapter’s charter location was officially changed from Minneapolis to Edina. This move was made to represent the membership that resided primarily in this metropolitan area.

The initial aim of the Monument Chapter, NSDAR, was to erect patriotic monuments in public places. Today, members continue to honor their ancestors by providing services, awards, and contributions in the areas of historic preservation, education, and patriotism.

We Promote Historic Preservation, Patriotism and Education

Patriotism

Our chapter supports national and state patriotism projects as well as supports our local veterans and hosts celebratory events such as the 4th of July and Veterans Day.

Education

We Make a Difference in Our Communities

Historic Preservation

Monument Chapter chose to take part in the 2022 State Regent’s preserving history and heritage through cemetery care and renewal project. The State Regent asked each chapter to adopt at least one cemetery in the chapter’s local community, with an emphasis on historic cemeteries or cemeteries where Minnesota veterans and/or pioneers are interred. Our chapter supported this project by volunteering at the Oak Hill Cemetery. The project focused on using a collection of tools for the headstone cleaning process and additional landscaping efforts to preserve many gravestones. Since 2022, our efforts resulted in 228 headstones unearthed/cleaned and 42 upright headstones cleaned. This project provided such satisfaction that our chapter continued this effort beyond the project’s expiration date.

Patriotism

Our chapter participates in various patriotic projects through the year such as Project Patriot where we collect and donate supplies for active men and women in the military, monthly Fisher House volunteering, placing flags at Fort Snelling, participating in the Edina 4th of July parade, volunteering at the Minneapolis Veterans Administration (VA) food pantry, and participation in Constitution Week activities at Edina City Hall and within the chapter.

Education

Our chapter is passionate about educating the youth of America and contributing to school programs such as supporting DAR schools, donating funds to American Indian schools, providing scholarships and awards to outstanding students in Minnesota, promoting education and citizenship through youth programs such as Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.), DAR Good Citizens, and sponsoring American History Essay contests for grades five through eight. We also promote education and awareness for topics such as American Heritage, Literacy, Native American Culture, DAR Schools, and others.
